The
Institution of Engineers (India)
is the Professional Body of Engineers founded in India
and incorporated by the Royal Charter in 1935. From
a humble beginning in 1920, today it is a multi-disciplinary
nation-wide association having the largest body of its
kind in the whole of Asia with multinational status
and bilateral relations with many sister associations
round the world. This Institution functions amongst
the Engineers, Academicians and Research Workers and
provides a vast array of technical, professional and
support services to the Government, Industries, Academic
and the Engineering community.
Karnataka State Centre traditionally felicitates the Presidents of IEI on their assuming charge as President.
In keeping with this convention, the Centre had convened a Felicitation Function in honour of President, Sri S L Garg on 18 April 2012.
Sri S L Garg was felicitated by Dr. K. Gopalakrishnan, Chairman ; Er. G. Sreekanth, Honorary Secretary ; Dr. L.V. Muralikrsihna Reddy
and Dr. Wooday P. Krishna, Council Members by presenting a Shawl, Mysore Peta, Citation and a Mement.
National Design & Research Forum, a peripheral wing of IEI, Local Centres in the region of Karnataka - Belgaum, Davangere, Gulbarga
and Mysore ; and Alumni Association of IEI also offered their felicitations on this occasion.
Padmashri Dr. H.C. Visvesvaraya, FIE, Former Vice Chancellor of University of Roorkee and Past President of the Institution of Engineers (India)
has been conferred with “Doctor of Science” Degree. He received the Award from His Excellency Sri Hans Raj Bhardwaj at the 11th Convocation of
Visvesvaraya Technological University held on 8 April 2012 at Begaum.

Much earlier to the formation of The Institution of
Engineers (India), in the old Mysore, an Association
of Engineers was formed in the year 1863 from amongst
the engineers of Public Works Department on a modest
scale to cater to the technical needs of the engineers.
On expansion of its membership and activities, it was
registered as Mysore Engineers’

150th
Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya
Coinciding
with the Concluding Session of the Platinum Jubilee which was
a memorable event in the history of Karnataka State Centre,
the Centre celebrated yet another significant activity. It was
Sesquicentennial Birthday Celebrations – to commemorate
the 150th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya,
the great Engineer-Statesman and a Legendary of Karnataka.
A series of programmes spread over a period
of thirty days on topics of high relevance which were dearer
to Sir M.V’s heart and vision were organized starting
15 September to 15 October 2010. A Book depicting the life
history and achievements of Sir M.V. was brought out to mark
the occasion.
In addition, as a tribute to his dedicated
service to the State of Karnataka, on the occasion of his
Sesquicentennial Birthday Celebrations, our State Centre launched
a Website on Sir M. Visvesvaraya named “www.visvesvaraya.co.in
“ on 15 September 2010. This is a dedicated website
and first of its kind. The website was launched by the Hon’ble
Minister for Higher Education, Govt. of Karnataka at the Inaugural
Function of the 150th Birthday Celebrations held on 15.9.2010.
